Born and raised in Taiwan and based in United States since 2023, Hsin-Ya is a photographer, writer, and Registered Nurse whose practice explores the delicate boundary between the comfort and panic zones. Her creative process is rooted in a lifelong duality: the artistic discipline, rhythmic precision honed on the piano and basketball court, and a scientific curiosity first sparked by childhood weekends lost among the fossils and insects of national museums. Today, she carries that same curiosity, seeking to understand how the world fits together, or even how it doesn’t. This fascination with the construction of things spans everything from small mechanical devices to the complexities of human biology, informing both her clinical and artistic work. Hsin-Ya brings a high-stakes empathy and a practiced eye for subtle shifts in the human condition to her photography. She is drawn to the multifaceted surprises found in nameless days, seeing memories like pebbles collected along a river; she picks them up, frames them, and uses text to carve out the stories they tell. Her work is known for its vicarious nostalgia, wistful longing, and documentary humor, evoking an intertwining of melancholy and affection through both her pictures and her words.
